BUSHVELD PIPIT
Anthus caffer
A: Bosveldkoester
A tough customer! Knowing its nasal, buzzy call is definitely the best way of locating it, but it is nowhere common. Persistent searching of their favoured sandy, broad-leaved woodland habitat normally yields results. It has no distinct supercilium, and is heavily streaked above, whilst the underparts are diffusively streaked. The streaking can appear heavy, but normally this isn’t the case. Mabusa GR, and the Seringveld Conservancy are some of the best places to find this bird. They reliably land in trees when flushed.
