GREATER SAND PLOVER
Charadrius leschenaultii
A: Grootstrandkiewiet
A large ‘Charadrian’. Present mainly along the eastern coast of the subregion, becoming more common the further north you are. No white collar on the neck; long legs; long, relatively thick bill are all features. The large, long bill separate it from the similar Lesser Sand Plover. A vagrant down to the Western Cape, where this one had been showing at De Mond.
