GREATER STRIPED SWALLOW
Hirundo cucullata
A: Grootstreepswael
A common summer visitor to the majority of South Africa. More prevalent in the higher-lying, grassy areas of the nation. Differentiated from Lesser Striped Swallow by its larger size, pale orange rump (not rich rufous), and by having a very lightly streaked breast (Lesser Striped is heavily streaked). The name Greater Striped comes from its larger size.
