Yellow-fronted Tinkerbird

YELLOW-FRONTED TINKERBIRD

Pogoniulus chrysoconus

A: Geelblestinker

O: Yellow-fronted Tinker Barbet

A common bird of the eastern, non-coastal areas of the subregion. Similar Red-fronted Tinkerbird occurs strictly in coastal forest along the east coast of South Africa. A continuous “pop-pop-pop-pop-pop” emanating from within the bush belongs to this species. Can be remarkably confiding. The yellow forehead is not always yellow, and may be either orange, or a dull red colour – which does add some confusion!
